Dollar General Market opened last week in Mountain View Plaza in Troutville in
part of the space that once housed the Winn-Dixie grocery store.
The new enterprise opened Thursday, June 7. The parking lot stayed filled most
of the weekend with the curious and the dedicated bargain shoppers.
According to the press release, Dollar General is the nation's largest operator
of general merchandise stores with over 8,000 stores in 35 states. A grand
opening for the Troutville store scheduled for Saturday, June 16 at 8 a.m.
The store has over 14,000 square feet of retail space and 21,175 square feet
total.
The Dollar General Market features wider aisles and almost 10 times the cooler
space for food than the average Dollar General Store. It also features fresh
produce, a meat section and many aisles of canned goods. It has the same items
found in the regular Dollar General Stores throughout this area, placing
groceries and everyday household items, basic clothing and personal and beauty
items in one location.
“The Dollar General Market brings even more of the products our Troutville
neighbors need every day at value prices, all together in one convenient
location,” Senior Vice-President Wayne Gibson said about the Troutville
location.
The new store has added approximately 40 jobs to the local economy
